The Seattle University women’s golf team put together a solid round of golf to position itself well for the rest of the weekend, ending the first round of the Red Rocks Invitational, hosted by Northern Arizona University, in fifth place Saturday at the Oakcreek Country Club.
Three Redhawks finished the day in a tie for 12th place, as Linette Chua (Singapore), Dorsey Addicks (Big Sky, Mont.), and Jamie Huo (Kent, Wash.) shot 76 (+4) in the first round. Ellen Brantberg (Stockholm, Sweden) is right behind them in a tie for 15th place after shooting 77 (+5), and Alexus Song (Auburn, Wash.) is in a tie for 29th place after posting a first round score of 80 (+8).
As a team, Seattle U combined for a score of 305 (+17), just 10 strokes behind leader South Dakota State and also within reach of UC Riverside (296), Southern Utah (302), and Northern Arizona (304). Taylor Viquelia of Southern Utah sits atop the individual leaderboard after shooting 70 (-2) with a one stroke advantage over Jakeishya Le of UC Riverside.
The second and final round of the Red Rocks Invitational is scheduled to take place Sunday, March 6, with a shotgun start set for 9 a.m. local time (8 a.m. Pacific time).
