“We made some good adjustments in the first game and Lindsay [Davis] had a solid pitching performance,” said head coach Geoff Hirai. “We’re looking forward to finishing the weekend and getting another chance at Boise State tomorrow.”
The Redhawks complete play in the weekend’s home tournament on Sunday, Mar. 6 at 11:15 am vs. Boise State. Kent State and Bradley will play a neutral-site contest at 9 a.m.
Game 1: Pacific 7, Seattle U 3
Cassidy Gustafson brought Molly Bourne home on a two-out RBI triple in the top of the second before the Redhawks tied the game, 1-1, in the bottom of the frame as Rose Saenz (San Gabriel, Calif.) scored SU’s first run.
Pacific regained the lead, 2-1, in the third before extending their lead, 4-1, in the top of the fourth on a pair of RBI doubles. Seattle U cut their deficit in half, 4-2, in the bottom of the fourth as Saenz scored again on a Molly Campbell (San Diego, Calif.) double, but the Tigers tacked on three more in the fifth on a Bourne homer to lead 7-2.
In the bottom of the fifth, the Redhawks cut into the deficit, 7-3, as Paige Bouska (Keizer, Ore.) scored on a Kaylee Ree (Gresham, Ore.) single but SU would leave the bases loaded in the bottom of the seventh as the score became final.
Kenya Lindstrom picked up the win in the circle for Pacific while Andie Larkins (Tucson, Ariz.) walked and struck out two batters apiece in the loss.
Game 2: Boise State 5, Seattle U 2
Seattle U took a two-run advantage in the first on a Maddy Kristjanson (Mountlake Terrace, Wash.) two-out homer, a lead they would carry through the end of the third inning. The Broncos scored a run in the top of the fourth on a Kayla Clausen RBI single as the Redhawks remained ahead, 4-1.
A four-run seventh inning for Boise State would lift them to victory as Izzy Serrano singled to center field before Teauna Hughes cleared the bases with a three-run homer.
Despite the loss, SU outhit Boise State, 7-6, led by Saenz going 2-for-2 with a run.
In the circle, Lindsay Davis (Palo Cedro, Calif.) walked three while striking out two in the loss. Mackenzie McGill picked up the complete game win, striking out three, for Boise State.
