Seattle University men’s tennis (4-10) dropped the doubles point and fell behind early in singles but battled back to earn a 4-3 victory vs. Whitman College (3-3).

“I’m really proud of the guys for the way they handled adversity today against a really good Whitman team,” said head coach Adam Reeb. “We had some guys battling injuries or even out of the lineup, but we stepped up and played a really good match. We lost a close doubles point but didn’t panic and calmly worked our way through singles. I’m happy with the way we responded when things didn’t go our way today.”

SU’s John Stormans (Olympia, Wash.) and Connor Leahy (Portland, Ore.) tied doubles action at one match apiece with a win in the No. 2 spot before Whitman ultimately took a 1-0 lead, winning two of three doubles matches.

Whitman’s Chase Freidman followed with a win at No. 3 singles to take a 2-0 lead before the Redhawks won four straight singles matches to clinch the win and take a 4-2 lead. Whitman finished the match with a win in the No. 5 singles spot as the Redhawks earned a 4-3 victory. Stormans clinched the match at No. 2 singles with a three-set victory, 4-6, 6-4, 6-2, after falling behind early.

The Redhawks continue their five-match homestand vs. Pacific Lutheran on Sunday, Mar. 6 at 1 p.m. at the Tennis Center at Sand Point.
