Seattle University softball (4-7) picked up their second shutout of the season as Maddy Kristjanson (Mountlake Terrace, Wash.) served the fatal blow in a 1-0 victory over St. Mary’s (3-8).

"Pitching and defense played very well today," said head coach Geoff Hirai. "Our offense is coming around and if we can keep getting better each day, we will be where we want to be at the end of the year."

After six scoreless innings from either team, Kristjanson broke up the scoreless draw, starting the seventh with a solo home run to center field to give the Redhawks a 1-0 lead. The Redhawks were able to hold St. Mary’s scoreless through the final half inning to earn the one-run victory.

Andie Larkins (Tucson, Ariz.) pitched the complete game shutout in the circle for Seattle U, walking and striking out two apiece while St. Mary’s Katie Moss suffered the loss, striking out six.

At the plate, four Redhawks went 1-for-3 while the Gaels picked up five hits in the pitcher’s duel.

On Saturday, the Redhawks continue play in Moraga, Calif., facing St. Mary’s for the second of three times at 12 p.m. before taking on Sacramento State at 2 p.m. Links to live stats for all five contests this weekend are on the softball schedule page at GoSeattleU.com.
