Seattle University men’s tennis (3-9) swept a pair of matches, defeating Lewis-Clark State (5-5), 5-2, before earning an exciting 4-3 victory vs. Idaho State (1-6) that came down to the final match.

“Today was a long and grueling day for us,” said head coach Adam Reeb. “We came out and defeated a very tough Lewis-Clark State team this morning. And then our match against Idaho State was an absolute classic and every match was a battle. I’m so proud of our team for gutting that match out. Matt [Alderson] came through with the deciding match, which was awesome to see. This one was everything that is fun and exciting about college tennis. Just a great effort by both teams and I’m so proud of and happy for our guys.”

Match 1: Seattle U 5, Lewis-Clark State 2

Seattle U clinched the doubles point early, winning the first two doubles matches to finish.

LCSC took a 2-1 lead through the first two singles matches to finish but the Redhawks would regain the lead to earn the 5-2 victory, winning four straight matches. The No. 4 and No. 6 singles wins by Seattle U came down to a three-set battle.

Match 2: Seattle U 4, Idaho State 3

The Redhawks, much like their first match of the day, took a 1-0 lead by earning the doubles point, which would prove to be vital to victory.

Seattle U improved their lead to 3-0 on wins at No. 3 and No. 4 singles from reigning WAC Male Tennis Player of the Week Michael Schoettler (Tacoma, Wash.) and Tanner Berkabile (Las Vegas, Nev.) before Idaho State tied the match at three-all in the next three singles matches.

Matt Alderson (Bainbridge Island, Wash.) fell behind early at No. 6 singles, the clinching match, but would win the second and third set to earn the decision in Seattle U’s favor.
