Seattle University head men’s soccer coach Pete Fewing has signed a new four-year contract, which keeps him at the helm of the Redhawks through the 2019 season.

“We are very fortunate to have Pete as our head men’s soccer coach for several more years,” said Director of Athletics, Bill Hogan. “With the top 10 RPI in 2015 and advancement to the Sweet 16, Pete has established Seattle U as an elite program. We are all enthused about future achievements under his leadership.”

Fewing returned to Seattle University in February 2012 after 18 previous seasons coaching the Redhawks (1988-2005). In his first tenure at SU, he built the program into a national powerhouse at the NAIA and Division II levels, leading the team to national titles at both levels in 1997 and 2004, respectively.

Picking up where he left off, Fewing returned the program to national prominence, now at the Division I level, as the Redhawks advanced to the Sweet 16 in 2015. Named NSCAA West Regional Coach of the Year, Fewing’s Redhawks defeated No. 10 Washington, No. 13 Oregon State, and No. 25 UCLA in the first ever DI NCAA tournament game hosted on campus last season.

“I am thrilled to be at Seattle University and am so honored to coach at a fantastic Jesuit school in a great city,” said Fewing. “I really love working with our student-athletes and I feel very blessed to have the opportunity. I’m grateful to Fr. Sundborg, Dr. Tim Leary, and my boss, Bill Hogan, for the opportunity to continue. We have a lot of work to do, there’s much to improve, and there’s more young men to impact in a positive way. I look forward to the next four years and I’m eager to build the program.”

Under his leadership, the team excels both on the field and in the classroom, as the Redhawks earned the program’s first NSCAA Team Academic Award in the Division I era for posting over a 3.0 cumulative GPA in 2013-14 and posted six to the WAC All-Academic team in 2015. Athletically, the team also earned their first two Division I All-Americans and four All-Region honorees last season.

After an exciting, momentous, and historic 2015, fans can look forward to the men’s soccer schedule announcement later this spring.
