Battling windy conditions, the Seattle University women’s golf team finished the first round of the Matador Invitational, hosted by Cal State Northridge, in seventh place before the second round was halted Monday due to darkness at the Wood Ranch Golf Club.

Jamie Huo (Kent, Wash.) fought through the tough conditions to shoot 80 (+8) in the first round, starting the second round in a tie for 11th place only four strokes behind the leader. Ellen Brantberg (Stockholm, Sweden) shot 82 (+10), but still found herself in a tie for 19th place after the opening round.

Playing in her first collegiate tournament, Linette Chua (Singapore) shot 85 (+13) in the opening round which put her in a tie for 28th place. Alexus Song (Auburn, Wash.) completed the first round in a tie for 36th place after shooting 86 (+14), and Juhee Lee (Wilsonville, Ore.) ended up in 60th place after the first round at 102 (+30).

Seattle U posted a team score of 333 (+45) in the first round, good enough for seventh place, but just four strokes behind third place Morehead State. Santa Clara held the lead after the first round at 319 (+31) by five strokes over Hawaii, with Kristin Le of Santa Clara shooting 76 (+4) to hold a one-stroke lead after the first round.

The players are scheduled to complete the second round Tuesday, Feb. 9, at 8 a.m. before immediately moving into the third and final round of the tournament.
