Senior Jane Liggett (Portland, Ore.), a four-year member of the Seattle University swim team, has been named the Featured Student-Athlete of the Week on GoSeattleU.com.

Liggett was one of six seniors honored before last Saturday’s meet in Senior Day ceremonies. She then swam the third leg of the 200 medley relay, posting a 50 butterfly split of 26.83 seconds, followed by a third place finish in the 200 butterfly in 2:08.75 and a second place finish in the 100 butterfly in 58.18 seconds, both season-best times for Liggett. In the final event of the meet, she led off the 400 freestyle relay with a 100 free split of 54.63 seconds, helping her quartet to a second-place finish in the race with a total time of 3:38.98.

When providing information for the Senior Day presentation, she listed the 400 medley relay as her favorite event, an event in which she is part of six of the top 10 times in program history, including the school record of 3:48.80 set at last year’s WAC Championships as well as three marks posted during the current season. She still holds the school record in the 100 butterfly of 56.38 seconds, set at the 2014 WAC Championships, and the second-best time of 2:05.05 in the 200 butterfly posted at the same meet.

Liggett is on track to receive her Bachelor of Science degree in nursing and currently carries a 3.43 grade point average. A three-time Academic All-WAC honoree, Liggett has been one of the people who have played a significant role in the establishment and expansion of the Student-Athlete Fellowship program.

The Seattle University swim team heads to Houston, Texas, in three weeks for the 2016 Western Athletic Conference Swimming and Diving Championships, to be held at the CRWC Natatorium on the campus of the University of Houston Feb. 24-27.

The Seattle University athletics department names a Featured Student-Athlete each Tuesday based on performances both in the classroom and in competition.
