The Seattle University swim teams have continued to show their excellence not only in the pool, but also in the classroom, as both the men’s and women’s swim teams have been named Scholar All-America Teams by the College Swimming Coaches Association of American (CSCAA), announced Wednesday by the national organization.
Both teams received the award after achieving a combined grade point average of at least 3.0 during the 2015 fall quarter. The Seattle U women posted a 3.55 grade point average last fall, while the Redhawk men finished with a 3.12 grade point average.
The Seattle U women’s swim team tied for 15th for the highest fall 2015 GPA among the 149 Division I programs that received the academic honor. The Redhawks are one of seven Western Athletic Conference teams to earn the award, along with CSU Bakersfield, Grand Canyon, Idaho, New Mexico State, North Dakota, and Northern Colorado, tied for fourth-most representatives from a Division I conference.
Including Seattle U, five members of the Western Athletic Conference received Scholar All-America honors on the men’s side, with CSU Bakersfield, Grand Canyon, North Dakota, and UNLV also qualifying for the award. In total, 84 Division I men’s swim programs picked up the academic honor for fall 2015.
Seattle University will host Simon Fraser this Saturday, Jan. 30, starting at 12 noon at the Connolly Complex Pool. Before the meet, Senior Day ceremonies will take place honoring those competing at home for the final time.
