Seattle University women’s tennis’ Michelle Lui (Bellevue, Wash.) has been named Western Athletic Conference Female Tennis Player of the Week for the week of Jan. 18-24, 2016. After being named WAC Freshman of the Year last season, Lui earned two WAC Female Tennis Player of the Month accolades in fall 2015.

“Michelle had a great weekend, winning both her singles matches and her doubles match that finished,” said head coach Adam Reeb. “It’s a great accomplishment to go undefeated at No. 1 singles against two Mountain West schools. She had to adjust to the different conditions, altitude and playing two different types of opponents, but she handled it very well and is definitely deserving of this honor.”

Lui defeated Colorado State’s Laia Hernandez Soler and Air Force Academy’s Mary Meyers, both in straight sets, over the weekend. With doubles partner Kelli Woodman (Denver, Colo.), Lui defeated Colorado State’s Aina Hernandez Soler and Madison Porter, 6-3, on Friday, Jan. 22. As a duo, Lui and Woodman have won at No. 1 doubles in two of three matches to finish to start the spring 2016 season.

The Redhawks defeated Colorado State, 4-3, in Fort Collins, Colo. on Saturday.

Seattle U (2-3) has the weekend off from competition before starting a busy weekend of play with six matches in a four-day span (Feb. 4-7). The Redhawks return home to host South Dakota State at the Tennis Center at Sand Point to close the busy week on Sunday, Feb. 7 at 3 p.m.
