Seattle University men’s soccer’s David Olsen (Auburn, Wash.) has been named one of 15 men’s semifinalists for the 2015 MAC Hermann trophy, the most coveted award in college soccer. The award, administered by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA), is the organization’s highest individual intercollegiate award.

“I’m thrilled for David and with his performance this year,” said head coach Pete Fewing. “He is very deserving and without the important goals he scored for us, we wouldn’t have gotten to 18 wins and the third round of the NCAA tournament. He is so consistent, a great teammate, and played his best soccer at the end of the season. He’s proudly representing Seattle U and our program in such a positive way.”

Olsen scored a nation-leading 16 goals in 2015, breaking Miguel Gonzalez’s 2013 record for Seattle U’s most Division I goals in a season, and ranks fourth in NCAA total points as of Nov. 30. Scoring eight goals combined in a four-game stretch, he found the back of the net versus opponents such as Dartmouth, Washington, and Syracuse. A three-time College Soccer News Team of the Week and two-time Top Drawer Soccer Team of the Week honoree, he received first team All-Conference honors. Olsen was also named to the Western Athletic Conference All-Tournament Team as well as being named the Tournament MVP.

The full list of men’s semifinalists is as follows: Brandon Allen (Georgetown), Amass Amankona (Dayton), Julian Buescher (Syracuse), Jonathan Campbell (North Carolina), Mauro Cichero (SMU), Paul Clowes (Clemson), Reagan Dunk (Denver), Nick DePuy (UCSB), Kyle Fisher (Clemson), Jack Harrison (Wake Forest), Fabian Herbers (Creighton), Jordan Morris (Stanford), David Olsen (Seattle), Timo Pitter (Creighton), and Brandon Vincent (Stanford).

As a semifinalist, Olsen moves on to consideration for the MAC Hermann trophy and six finalists (three men, three women) will be named finalists on Friday, Dec. 11 during the 2015 NCAA Men’s College Cup. The winner’s trophy presentation will take place on Friday, Jan. 8, 2016 at the Missouri Athletic Club in St. Louis.

NCAA Division I coaches who are current NSCAA College Services members will vote for their top choices from Tuesday, Dec. 1-10 while fan voting counts for a component of the final winner at the following website: http://lockerdome.com/machermanntrophy/7304011619516225/8258132799434776.
