For the third straight year, Seattle University earns at least one nomination at the 81st annual MTR Western Seattle Sports Star of the Year Awards as men’s soccer head coach Pete Fewing is up for Male Sports Star of the Year. The award is given to a male athlete or coach for outstanding sports achievement in the past year or season.
Last year, Seattle U’s Stephanie Verdoia received Female Sports Star of the Year honors at the Seattle Sports Commission event that highlights and honors the accomplishments of Seattle sports throughout the year.
Fewing, his assistant coaches, and support staff, led the Redhawks, who rank No. 12 in the final NSCAA poll of the season, to an 11-seed and Sweet 16 berth in the NCAA tournament in 2015 for which he was named NSCAA West Regional Coach of the Year, sixth of his career.
The award is based 50 percent on public voting and 50 percent on the vote of the Seattle Sports Committee, which includes local sports historians, media, and others active in the sports industry in the Emerald City.
Also nominated for Male Sports Star of the year are Luke Falk (Washington State football), Cheng-Tsung Pan (Washington golf), Nelson Cruz (Seattle Mariners), Clint Dempsey (Seattle Sounders), and Michael Bennett (Seattle Seahawks).
Fans can vote for Fewing by clicking HERE starting Wednesday, Dec. 16 at 10 a.m. and ending Friday, Jan. 29 at 5 p.m.
The winner will be announced at the annual awards show on Feb. 10, 2016, at the Paramount Theatre (911 Pine Street.
