After completing full-squad fall practices, the Seattle University baseball team has undertaken a couple of community service projects to help out those in need.

Recently, members of the team went to Northwest Harvest to help the organization sort through the numerous food donations it receives on a daily basis. Northwest Harvest will distribute the food to its network of more than 380 food banks, meal programs, and high-need schools, provide more than two million meals every month.

Also, several players traveled to Seattle Children’s Hospital to visit with the young patients and their families. In Donny Harrel’s career as Seattle U head baseball coach, a special emphasis has been placed on helping children as they battle various medical conditions.

"I am very proud of our guys and the organization of assistant coach Mike Nadeau with our local charities. These are life-long lessons for our guys," Harrel said.

The Seattle U baseball team won the athletics department’s Team Mission Award in 2010 and 2011 for its commitment to community service. In the past, the squad has worked with organizations such as the Friends of Jaclyn Foundation, the Boys and Girls Club, and the Sparrow Foundation.

The Seattle University baseball team won a school-record 31 games in 2015, including a 19-8 record within the Western Athletic Conference. The Redhawks won their first two games in the WAC Tournament to advance to the championship round, also earning their first postseason victories in program history.
