“They are both great people and teammates who will fit in well with our program,” Reeb says of Maltby and McCollister. “They are important pieces to our puzzle as we keep building our program and competing for WAC titles.”
Maltby, a four-year varsity letterwinner from Glenbard West High School in Glen Ellyn, Ill., was named Team MVP during her current senior season. A three-time All-Conference and two-time All-State honoree, she currently has a 93-28 record at No. 1 singles during her high school career.
“Caroline is a great addition to our program,” Reeb says. “She has a solid game and comes from a great tennis family. She is a bit of a diamond in the rough, as she has already achieved a high level, but we are confident that she will continue to flourish and improve in college. We believe her best tennis is still in front of her and that’s definitely an exciting thought. Caroline is also a great student and a terrific young lady who will fit well with our close-knit team.”
McCollister, a product of Portland’s Grant High School, is a three-year varsity starter at No. 1 singles with a 55-6 overall high school record. She has competed at Portland Interscholastic League Districts as well as the Oregon State Championships the past three years (2013-15). She is a two-time team captain (2014-15) and a two-time team MVP (2013-14), also playing for the Girls 18 National Fed Cup team in 2015.
“It’s important to us to keep the best players in the Pacific Northwest close to home and, in saying that, we’re excited that Kali has committed to our program for next year,” Reeb says. “Kali has a solid all-court game, and we know she has been taught well as she is the project of Portland High Performance Tennis and coach Patrick Dreves.”
This year’s squad recently finished fall competition at Gonzaga’s Bulldog Invitational and will open the spring season at Washington on Jan. 9, with their first home match the following day vs. Eastern Washington.
