Bjornethun was a steady presence in the Redhawk backline that allowed just 10 goals in conference play. He added to that the game-winner in a 3-2 win at UNLV and was on the field for all but 20 minutes of WAC play. In non-conference play, he scored two goals in the final two minutes, including the game-winner, at then-No. 13 Oregon State, earning him NSCAA National Player of the Week accolades.
Rivas was named to the TopDrawerSoccer Midseason Freshmen Top 100 and ranked in the top 10 in total assists among WAC men’s soccer players. He averaged 2.20 shots per game and scored one goal in conference play, assisting on two others. He played all 90 minutes in five of 10 WAC matches, starting all 10 for the Redhawks.
Fewing led the Redhawks to their second WAC regular season title in three years in 2015 after leading Seattle U to their first Division I win at Creighton in the NCAA tournament two seasons ago. This also marks the second Coach of the Year title in the past three years for Fewing. He earned his 250th career win earlier this season in a 2-1 victory vs. Dartmouth. He has led the Redhawks to a tie for the most wins in the nation with Creighton heading into this weekend’s matches, as well as Seattle U’s highest Division I national rankings throughout the season.
David Olsen (Auburn, Wash.) and Shane Haworth (Puyallup, Wash.) join Bjornethun with First Team All-Conference honors while Nathan Aune (Arlington, Wash.) and Sam Langston (Sammamish, Wash.) earn Second Team All-Conference honors alongside Rivas.
Seattle U earned the No. 1 seed in this weekend’s conference tournament as the regular season title winners and will face the winner of No. 4 Houston Baptist/No. 5 CSU Bakersfield on Friday, Nov. 13 at 7:30 pm CT/5:30 pm PT. The winner of that game will advance to the championship game on Sunday.
