Seattle University women’s soccer (6-2-3, 1-0-2 WAC) outshot UMKC (7-4-1, 1-1-1 WAC), 15-13, over the contest but neither team could find the back of the net as they played to a 0-0 draw through two regulation periods and a set of overtimes.

“I was really impressed with the team at times today,” said head coach Julie Woodward. “Our possession was fairly good and we created some good opportunities to score. All that was missing is the fun part and that’s putting the ball away in the back of the net. This gives us something to work on this week heading into our home stretch. UMKC always gives us a competitive game, which we look forward to. I was pleased once again with our defense and Brianna [Smallidge] in goal and was happy to get the shutout.”

Karli White (North Bend, Wash.) had several of Seattle U’s best chances, with three of her team-leading five shots on target. For the ‘Roos, Kelsey Mothershead led with three of her team-high six shots on frame.

With five saves in goal, Brianna Smallidge (Port Orchard, Wash.) picked up her fifth complete game shutout of the year in the team’s sixth shutout of 2015. UMKC’s Nina Tzianos made five saves in nearly 79 minutes of action before Anna Lillig entered the match, making two saves  in the final 31:24 of the game.

Seattle U returns home next weekend for the first time since August after a seven-game road swing over the past month. The Redhawks host University of Texas Rio Grande Valley on Friday, Oct. 9 at 7 pm in their Western Athletic Conference home opener and New Mexico State on Sunday, Oct. 11 at 12 noon.
