Seattle University women’s soccer (12-2-3, 7-0-2 WAC), who moved into first place in Western Athletic Conference standings after this weekend, earned their 11th shutout of the season, a 4-0 victory at Grand Canyon (7-9-2, 4-4-1 WAC) to end their final regular season road trip.

“I was very happy with the way we played today,” said head coach Julie Woodward. “We were extremely consistent and played well the majority of 90 minutes. It’s nice to be getting shutouts and scoring goals as we head into the conference tournament. Julia [Moravec] continues to be very productive for us and you can see her experience come out on the field with the number of assists she had today. I cannot say enough about Brianna [Smallidge] and our back line. They are a tough, hard-working, intelligent group defensively.”

Julia Moravec (Spokane, Wash.) became the team’s leading goal scorer with her ninth of the season, the game-winner in the 22nd minute on a cross in from Summer Mason (Carlsbad, Calif.). Moravec would go on to assist the following three goals, finishing with a team-high five points in the match.

Nine minutes later, Kyla Danforth (Canyon Country, Calif.) added a goal for insurance to give Seattle U a 2-0 lead at the half.

In the second half, Karli White (North Bend, Wash.) and Mason would score a pair of goals just a minute and 11 seconds apart starting in the 69th minute to give the Redhawks a 4-0 victory.

The Redhawks outshot the Lopes, 18-7, allowing just two shots on goal throughout the match. Danforth took a game-high five shots, two on frame.

In goal, Brianna Smallidge (Port Orchard, Wash.) made two saves while GCU’s Blakely Fraasch made seven saves.

Seattle U returns home to host Utah Valley in a battle for first place on Senior Night, Saturday, Oct. 31 at 7 p.m. Prior to the match, the team will honor this year’s graduating class.
