After leading the Seattle University women’s swim team to dual meet victories over Northern Colorado and Simon Fraser last Thursday, sophomore Paige Treff (Orland, Calif.) has been named the Western Athletic Conference Female Swimmer of the Week, announced Tuesday by the league office.

In addition, thanks to her exemplary work in the classroom as well as her performance in the pool, Treff has been named the Featured Student-Athlete of the Week on GoSeattleU.com.

Treff anchored the victorious 400 medley relay for the Redhawks, posting a 100 freestyle split of 53.37 seconds, fastest among all the anchor legs, to assist in the team’s overall time of 3:56.84, the eighth-fastest on Seattle U’s all-time top times list. Treff then left her competition behind by over 6/10ths of a second in the 50 freestyle, winning that event in 24.18 seconds.

With Seattle U behind Northern Colorado and just slightly ahead of Simon Fraser heading into the final event of the meet, Treff led off the 200 freestyle relay with a 50 free split of 24.43 seconds, fastest among all 20 swimmers who competed in the event. Treff and her teammates posted a winning time of 1:39.11, 10th-fastest on the Redhawks’ all-time top times list.

“Paige has been doing a great job this season with everything she has been accomplishing both in the pool and in the classroom. She reported to campus in great shape and has been doing all the extras to make sure that everything is paying off. A great attitude and work ethic helped her achieve in-season best times at our first meet even with a month of very heavy training. She has already started to see the payoff to her hard work and dedication and will continue to see it throughout the season,” Seattle U head coach Craig Nisgor said.

In the classroom, Treff has accumulated a 3.967 grade point average as a double major in criminal justice and psychology. She received Academic All-WAC honors last season, and she helped the women’s swim team earn the CSCAA Scholar All-America Team Award with the 13th-highest GPA among NCAA Division I squads.

Treff is the first Seattle U female swimmer to receive the conference’s weekly award since the Redhawks joined the conference in the fall of 2012.

The Redhawks return to competition next weekend with back-to-back meets against Grand Canyon and Loyola Marymount in Phoenix, Ariz. The meets take place Friday, Oct. 23, starting at 1:30 p.m. and Saturday, Oct. 24, at 11 a.m.

The Seattle University athletics department names a Featured Student-Athlete of the Week each Tuesday based on performances both in the classroom and in competition.
