NATIONALLY RANKED REDHAWKS
This week, the Redhawks celebrate their third straight week in the NSCAA Division I Men’s Soccer Top 25 at No. 24. Seattle U earned their first national ranking of 2015 with a No. 24 ranking two weeks ago (Sept. 29, 2015), receiving their highest DI ranking to date last week (No. 19 - Oct. 6, 2015)

For the week of Oct. 12, the Redhawks also rank nationally in three other polls including Top Drawer Soccer (No. 14), Soccer America (No. 18), and College Soccer News (No. 20).

In 2014, Seattle U earned the program’s first two Division I national rankings since reclassification in the NSCAA/Continental Tire Top 25. On Sept. 2, 2014 the Redhawks were ranked No. 22 and on Sept. 30, 2014 they were ranked No. 24.

2015 NCAA RPI RELEASED
In the third NCAA RPI rankings of 2015, the Redhawks come in at No. 14 after ranking No. 10 (Oct. 6), and No. 16 (Sept. 29) previously. Seattle U is the second highest rated team in Washington, Oregon, and California behind Stanford (No. 11). RPI (Rating Percentage Index) is used to rank teams based upon wins, losses, and strength of schedule, and is primarily used for seeding for the national postseason tournament.

TICKETS
For all home games, single game tickets can be purchased online (Ticketmaster), by phone (206-398-GOSU), at the SU Ticket Office (1218 E Cherry), or starting 60 minutes prior to kickoff at the NE entrance to Championship Field. For season tickets, the Redhawk Sports Pass allows for GA seating for all men’s and women’s soccer, volleyball, and baseball home contests.

BEST OF THE WEST
In the Oct. 13 version of the NSCAA NCAA Division I Men’s West Regional poll, four of 10 are members of the Western Athletic Conference. The Redhawks (2nd) are joined by Utah Valley (3rd), UNLV (4th), Bakersfield (9th).

THE GANG’S ALL HERE
Seattle U men’s and women’s soccer have a pair of doubleheaders this weekend, as both teams are home on Championship Field at the same time for the last time this season. On Friday, Oct. 16, the women (5 pm PT) and men (7:30 pm PT) each play CSU Bakersfield. On Sunday, Oct. 18, the women host Grand Canyon at 12 noon PT followed by the men vs. San Jose State at 3 pm PT.

BJORNETHUN NAMED NATIONAL POW
Junior defender Kyle Bjornethun was named National Division I Men’s Soccer Player of the Week by both the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) and College Soccer News for scoring both goals in the final 1:36 in a win at No. 13 Oregon State on Sunday, Sept. 27. He was also named Western Athletic Conference Offensive Player of the Week for the week of Sept. 21-27.

SCOUTING CSU BAKERSFIELD (4-3-3, 1-1-1 WAC)
Currently, Bakersfield is in seventh place in league standings. The Roadrunners are unbeaten in their last three games with wins vs. Pacific and Grand Canyon and a 1-1 draw vs. UNLV on Sunday, Oct. 11. Friday’s game vs. the Redhawks is sandwiched between two three-game homestands for CSUB. Julian Zamora and Christian Duarte lead the team with five and three goals, respectively, while in goal, Nicolas Clever (13 GA, 1.70 GAA, 24 saves, 0.649 save pct.) has made seven starts and Oscar Gloveus (2 GA, 0.62 GAA, 17 saves, 0.895 save pct.) has made three. In last year’s WAC tournament, Bakersfield eliminated Seattle U on Nov. 14, 2014 in Seattle, as the two battled to a 1-1 tie but the ‘Runners advanced, 4-3, on PK’s.

SCOUTING SAN JOSE STATE (4-7-0, 2-1-0 WAC)
San Jose State has lost four of their last six but, most recently, defeated Grand Canyon, 6-0, on Oct. 11. The Spartans, who formerly were full members of the WAC and are now affiliate members for men’s soccer, are currently sitting in fourth place. Rory Knibbs leads the team with eight goals and 17 points while Emmanuel Espinoza has started all 11 games in goal (15 GA, 1.41 GAA, 48 saves, 0.762 save pct.).

THE STREAK
From Sept. 19-Oct. 4, the Redhawks recorded the nation’s third-longest winning streak of seven games behind Creighton (10) and Stanford (8).

SU AMONG NSCAA ELITE ACADEMICALLY
Seattle U is one of just over 200 schools whose men’s and women’s soccer teams both received the 2014-15 NSCAA Team Academic Award. This is the second straight year both teams have received the award while it marks the fifth consecutive year for the women.

NEW THIS SEASON
This season, alums Renato Bandeira and Arne Klubberud are on the call for Seattle U men’s soccer broadcasts both on the WAC Digital Network and GoSeattleU.com.

WAC DIGITAL NETWORK
The Redhawks are on the WAC Digital Network five times throughout the 2015 regular season, next at Grand Canyon on Oct. 25.

FEWING’S 250TH
Head coach Pete Fewing earned his 250th career win on Sunday, Sept. 20, a 2-1 come-from-behind victory vs. Dartmouth. David Olsen scored the game-winner late in the game to complete the Redhawk comeback.

NEXT SEASON
Next season (2016) will be the 50th season of the storied and accomplished men’s soccer program at Seattle U.
 
REDHAWKS PICKED TO WIN WAC
Seattle U was picked to win the 2015 WAC title in the league’s coaches’ preseason vote. Kyle Bjornethun was named WAC Preseason Defensive Player of the Year while Hamza Haddadi and Shane Haworth also joined Bjornethun on the Preseason All-Conference team.

HADDADI TIES WAC SCORING RECORD
Senior forward Hamza Haddadi scored four goals, three on PK’s all in the first half, in the Redhawks’ 6-0 season-opening win vs. UC Davis. His goal total tied the Western Athletic Conference record for individual goals in a match set by New Mexico’s Justin Sells in 1996.
