After scoring her first career goal in the team’s conference home opener on Friday, Oct. 9, Seattle University women’s soccer’s Sarah Coluccio (Seattle, Wash.) has been named Featured Student-Athlete for the week of Oct. 5-11, 2015 on GoSeattleU.com.

“Sarah has worked really hard this year to overcome some nagging injuries in the offseason,” said head coach Julie Woodward. “It was really wonderful and rewarding to see her score that great goal last weekend. She has always been such an integral part of our team. Her leadership qualities, commitment to academics, and selflessness in terms of giving back to our community are things that make her a very special person and athlete.”

Coluccio came in off the bench in a pair of shutouts over the weekend, the team’s seventh and eighth of 2015, and scored her first career goal in a 5-0 win vs. University of Texas Rio Grande Valley on Oct. 9. The 31st minute goal came just 49 seconds after Coluccio entered the match.

Off the field, Coluccio also excels in the classroom with a 3.61 cumulative GPA as an accounting major. She also served as the Athletic Representative for Student Government (SGSU) in 2014-15 and organized the Special Olympics Unified College tournament on SU’s campus in spring 2015.

Seattle U (8-2-3, 3-0-2 WAC) hosts Bakersfield on Friday, Oct. 16 at 5 pm and Grand Canyon on Sunday, Oct. 18 at 12 noon, both games part of doubleheaders with the men’s soccer team. Next weekend, the team is on the road before returning home for Senior Night on Saturday, Oct. 31 at 7 pm.

The Seattle University athletics department names a Featured Student-Athlete each Tuesday based on performances both in the classroom and in competition.
