The Seattle University women’s golf program will welcome 15 other collegiate golf teams from across the country to the Tacoma Country and Golf Club for the second annual Pat Lesser Harbottle Invitational Monday and Tuesday, Oct. 12 and 13.
After the success of the inaugural tournament last year, the Redhawks are once again joined by British Columbia, Cal Poly, Eastern Washington, Grand Canyon, Idaho, Montana, Portland State, Washington, and Weber State. Newcomers to this year’s edition include Cal State Fullerton, Gonzaga, Sacramento State, Sam Houston State, Texas Rio Grande Valley, and Utah Valley.
Alexus Song (Auburn, Wash.), the Western Athletic Conference Female Golfer of the Month for September, will lead the Redhawks after finishing as the team’s top player in each of the first three tournaments of the season. Song has finished in the top 20 in each of the past seven tournaments she has competed in dating back to last season, including a tie for 12th place at the recent Edean Ihlanfeldt Invitational at Sahalee Country Club.
Song will be joined by fellow juniors Jamie Huo (Kent, Wash.), Dorsey Addicks (Big Sky, Mont.), and Ellen Brantberg (Stockholm, Sweden), as well as freshman Yen Ting Wong (Singapore). Seniors Amanda Beyke (Federal Way, Wash.) and Juhee Lee (Wilsonville, Ore.) will compete as individuals.
The Washington Huskies dominated last year’s tournament, shooting one-under-par 863 to win by 34 strokes. However, it will be a different team for Washington this season, as only two of the six Huskies who finished in the top eight at the 2014 edition, seniors Charlotte Thomas and Ying Luo, are on the 2015-16 roster for Washington.
Other players to watch include Gonzaga’s Bianca Pagdanganan, the medalist at the Ihlanfeldt Invitational hosted by the University of Washington last week, and Idaho’s Michelle Kim, a freshman who has already been named the Big Sky Golfer of the Week twice this season. The golfers are scheduled to play 36 holes Monday, Oct. 12, and 18 holes Tuesday, Oct. 13.
Spectators are welcome to follow the golfers as long as they observe proper golf course etiquette.
