NATIONALLY RANKED REDHAWKS
This week, the Redhawks moved up to No. 19 on the NSCAA Division I Men’s Soccer Top 25. Seattle U earned their first national ranking of 2015 with a No. 24 ranking last week (Sept. 29, 2015).
For the week of Oct. 5, the Redhawks also rank nationally in three other polls including Top Drawer Soccer (No. 10), Soccer America (No. 14), and College Soccer News (No. 13).
In 2014, Seattle U earned the program’s first two Division I national rankings since reclassification in the NSCAA/Continental Tire Top 25. On Sept. 2, 2014 the Redhawks were ranked No. 22 and on Sept. 30, 2014 they were ranked No. 24.
CURRENT WIN STREAKS
As of Oct. 5, the Redhawks have the third longest Division I men’s soccer win streak with seven games behind Creighton (W10) and Stanford (W8).
2015 NCAA RPI RELEASED
In the second NCAA RPI rankings of 2015, the Redhawks move up to No. 10 from their debut at No. 16 last weekend, the highest rated team in Washington, Oregon, and California. RPI (Rating Percentage Index) is used to rank teams based upon wins, losses, and strength of schedule, and is primarily used for seeding for the national postseason tournament.
BJORNETHUN NAMED NATIONAL POW
Junior defender Kyle Bjornethun was named National Division I Men’s Soccer Player of the Week by both the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) and College Soccer News for scoring both goals in the final 1:36 in a win at No. 13 Oregon State on Sunday, Sept. 27. He was also named Western Athletic Conference Offensive Player of the Week for the week of Sept. 21-27.

In the Oct. 6 version of the NSCAA NCAA Division I Men’s West Regional poll, five of 10 are members of the Western Athletic Conference. The Redhawks (3rd) are joined by Utah Valley (2nd), UNLV (5th), Grand Canyon (8th), and Incarnate Word (10th). Utah Valley also ranks No. 23 in this week’s NSCAA National Poll.
SCOUTING HOUSTON BAPTIST (4-6, 0-2 WAC)
The Huskies have dropped four of their last five, winning vs. Central Arkansas, 1-0, on Sept. 20. HBU dropped a pair of WAC contests to open league play last weekend at UNLV and Grand Canyon. George Kelley has a team-high six goals and 12 points while, in goal, Philip Poser has started all 10 games (12 GA, 1.60 GAA, 21 saves, .636 save pct.) and Chance Pope has seen action in five games, picking up three of the team’s four wins (3 GA, 1.08 GAA, 11 saves, .786 save pct.).
SCOUTING UTRGV (4-5-1, 1-1-0 WAC)
The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (formerly University of Texas Pan American or UTPA), is in its first season of men’s soccer since 1997. The Vaqueros first signature win came in conference play last weekend, a 1-0 win at UNLV. Teemu Vaarakallio scored his first career goal in the 35th minute to lift UTRGV over the Rebels. Three different Vaqueros lead the team with three goals apiece while Isidro Martinez has a team-high seven points. Leo Castillo has started nine of 10 games in goal, making 47 saves (.797 save pct.) and allowing 12 goals (1.29 GAA).
SU AMONG NSCAA ELITE ACADEMICALLY
Seattle U is one of just over 200 schools whose men’s and women’s soccer teams both received the 2014-15 NSCAA Team Academic Award. This is the second straight year both teams have received the award while it marks the fifth consecutive year for the women.

FEWING’S 250TH
Head coach Pete Fewing earned his 250th career win on Sunday, Sept. 20, a 2-1 come-from-behind victory vs. Dartmouth. David Olsen scored the game-winner late in the game to complete the Redhawk comeback.

Next season (2016) will be the 50th season of the storied and accomplished men’s soccer program at Seattle U.

Seattle U was picked to win the 2015 WAC title in the league’s coaches’ preseason vote. Kyle Bjornethun was named WAC Preseason Defensive Player of the Year while Hamza Haddadi and Shane Haworth also joined Bjornethun on the Preseason All-Conference team.
HADDADI TIES WAC SCORING RECORD
Senior forward Hamza Haddadi scored four goals, three on PK’s all in the first half, in the Redhawks’ 6-0 season-opening win vs. UC Davis. His goal total tied the Western Athletic Conference record for individual goals in a match set by New Mexico’s Justin Sells in 1996.
