Seattle University men’s tennis’ Matt Alderson (Bainbridge Island, Wash.) has been named Featured Student-Athlete of the Week on GoSeattleU.com for the week of Sept. 28-Oct. 4.

"Matt had a great weekend at the Dar Walters Classic at Boise State and overall has had a solid fall season,” said head coach Adam Reeb.  “He showed great resilience with Connor [Leahy] in doubles, bouncing back from a first round loss to win five straight and take the consolation title.  Matt was in a zone on the return those last few matches, barely missing any while serving big and playing the net well too.  He continues to improve every day and we're excited to see his progress throughout the rest of the season."

Over the weekend, Alderson and doubles partner Connor Leahy (Portland, Ore.) won five straight matches to win the consolation doubles title with victories over teams from Utah State, Idaho State, and Montana, as well as a pair of their own teammates. He also earned a singles victory vs. Portland State’s Wil Cochrane in the consolation singles draw.

Alderson also excels academically with a 3.67 cumulative GPA as a finance major.

The Redhawks will finish their fall schedule at the ITA Regionals on Oct. 22-26 in Seattle.

The Seattle University athletics department names a Featured Student-Athlete each Tuesday based on performances both in the classroom and in competition.
