Seattle University women’s soccer (6-2-2, 1-0-1 WAC) scored three goals in the first half, adding two more in the second as they defeated Chicago State (0-11-0, 0-2-0 WAC) in their first Western Athletic Conference win of 2015.

“We had a really great second half,” said head coach Julie Woodward. “We were committed to working on our speed of play and possession and I thought the team did a great job with that. All of our players played significant minutes and did extremely well. We are looking forward to the game on Sunday as Kansas City is a very strong, athletic team, and it will be a great test for us.”

Summer Mason (Carlsbad, Calif.) scored in the 23rd minute on an assist by Julia Moravec (Spokane, Wash.) before Moravec netted two of her own in the 27th and 31st minutes. Karli White (North Bend, Wash.) and Jennifer Plummer (Highlands Ranch, Colo.) assisted the pair of goals, respectively, to give the Redhawks a 3-0 lead at halftime.

Just under and over 10 minutes into the second half, Seattle U scored two more goals for the final margin of victory. Plummer scored her first goal of the season in the 51st minute, going one-on-one with the goalie off Emily Zimmer’s (San Marcos, Calif.) first career assist. Six minutes later, Hannah Carrothers (Delta, B.C.) kicked in the final insurance goal on a pass from Hope Fleckner (Tacoma, Wash.).

Brianna Smallidge (Port Orchard, Wash.)  and Abby Bouck (Greenwood Village, Colo.), making her first career appearance, shared the shutout in goal for the Redhawks. Audra Wisehart made 12 saves in the complete game outing for the Cougars.

Seattle U faces their co-WAC regular season title winners, UMKC, on Sunday, Oct. 4, for the first time since eliminating them from the 2014 WAC Tournament. The match, broadcast on the WAC Digital Network at 1 pm CT/11 am PT, can be viewed from free online (www.wacsports.com/live) or on iPhone/tablet on the WAC Digital Network app.
