Led by the best individual round of the day shot by junior Alexus Song (Auburn, Wash.), the Seattle University women’s golf team posted the second-best team score of the day to move up into seventh place after Tuesday’s third and final round of the Cougar Cup, hosted by Washington State University at the Palouse Ridge Golf Club.

After shooting par on each of her first five holes, Song went on a birdie run, earning birdies on five of her next six holes. She slipped slightly with back-to-back bogeys, but she shot par on her final three holes to finish the third round at 69 (-3), moving up 21 spots into a tie for 17th place in the final standings with a three-round total of 223 (+7).

Jamie Huo (Kent, Wash.) went on a similar run during her final round, earning birdie on three of four holes midway through her circuit on her way to a 71 (-1), moving up 15 spots into a tie for 23rd place at 225 (+9). Dorsey Addicks (Big Sky, Mont.) collected two birdies during her round of 77 (+5) to finish in a tie for 32nd place at 229 (+13).

Yen Ting Wong (Singapore) earned her best round of the tournament, shooting 75 (+3) to finish in 45th place with a cumulative score of 233 (+17). Playing as an individual, Ellen Brantberg (Stockholm, Sweden) picked up three birdies as she shot 74 (+2) to end the tournament in a tie for 48th place at 237 (+21). Juhee Lee (Wilsonville, Ore.) also posted her best round of the tournament with a 76 (+4), finishing in a tie for 57th place at 239 (+23).

Seattle U combined for a third-round team score of 291 (+3), second-best among the 12 teams in the final round, to move up into seventh place in the final standings at 909 (+45). Host Washington State took the team title at 866 (+2) by 14 strokes over Idaho, with the Cougars’ Cherokee Kim holding on for medalist honors by two strokes with a 54-hole total of 211 (-5).

Seattle University heads south next week for the Rose City Collegiate, hosted by Portland State University at the Langdon Farms Golf Club in Aurora, Ore., Sept. 28-29, with 8 a.m. tee times set for both days.
