Nearly 20 minutes after half, Julia Moravec (Spokane, Wash.) broke the tie to give SU a 2-1 lead in the 65th minute nearly 12 yard out off a cross from Jennifer Plummer (Highlands Ranch, Colo.).
In the 79th, Karli White (North Bend, Wash.) tapped in a goal for insurance, 3-1, off assists from Plummer and Moravec on a redirected shot at the far post. Patrice Quadrel brought the Bluejays within one, 3-2, which proved to be the final margin of Seattle U victory.
“At the end of the day, I’m happy we got the result,” said head coach Julie Woodward. “We had a little trouble executing the game plan in the first half. I was proud of the way they responded to our coaching points at halftime. We also got some incredible effort from our players coming off the bench that really made a difference in the game. Jennifer Plummer, Rosie Sittauer, and Emily Zimmer played big minutes for us.”
White took the first shot on frame nearly 13minutes in after each team tallied two shots apiece through the first 15 minutes of the contest.
At the start of the 16th minute, Summer Mason (Carlsbad, Calif.) broke the scoreless tie with her second goal of the season from 15 yards out on the right side. Moravec recorded the assist.
Just over 14 minutes later, Creighton’s Emma Braasch evened the score off a blocked shot in the 30th minute as the score remained tied into halftime.
The Redhawks outshot the Bluejays, 16-11, including shots on goal, 9-6. White and Hope Fleckner (Tacoma, Wash.) led Seattle U with four shots apiece.
In goal, Brianna Smallidge made four saves in 90 minutes for the Redhawks while Erin Scott made six saves for Creighton.
