“Obviously the result of the game tonight is a little disappointing,” said head coach Julie Woodward. “On the positive side I think we had a lot of young new players out there on the field and it was a great experience for us to have this caliber of game in our preseason. This game helped expose our weaknesses and gives us something to work on as we prepare for conference.”
Summer Mason (Carlsbad, Calif.) took the first shot of the game for the Redhawks before Washington picked up their offensive game with a corner kick and a pair of shots before the 10 minute mark.
Stephanie Spiekerman (Seattle, Wash.) took a shot on goal in the 15th minute but the Huskies would follow with eight straight shots before Kimberly Keever gave UW a 1-0 lead in the 27th minute on a breakaway after the assist by Rachel Wheeler.
The Huskies opened the second half with a pair of corner kicks before four straight shots. Mason followed with a shot on goal in the 53rd minute before the Redhawks drew a corner kick 10 seconds later.
Washington increased their lead in the 79th minute as Wheeler headed the ball in off a cross by Shannon Simon. A minute later, Dom Bond-Flasza shot a long lob into the upper left corner to put UW ahead, 3-0, which would be the final margin.
Mason led SU with four shots, three on goal, while Bond-Flasza and Simon tallied a team-high six apiece for the Huskies.
In goal, Brianna Smallidge (Port Orchard, Wash.) made eight saves for Seattle U while the Huskies’ Megan Kufeld made four.
