After finishing in second place in each of the past two years, Dorsey Addicks (Big Sky, Mont.), entering her junior season with the Seattle University women’s golf team, set as one of her goals a victory in the 2015 Montana Women’s State Amateur Championship. Not even Mother Nature could keep Addicks from achieving that goal, as she withstood two weather delays during the final round to complete a wire-to-wire victory Thursday at the Canyon River Golf Club.
Addicks established a six-stroke lead Tuesday by shooting a tournament-best 68 (-4) in the first round, posting an eagle on the par-five sixth hole before collecting four birdies on the back nine. In Wednesday’s second round, she once again posted the best score in the field, shooting even-par 72 thanks to three birdies, including one on the final hole of the circuit, as her lead increased to nine strokes entering the final round.
On Thursday, Addicks and her fellow competitors faced intense winds and scattered thunderstorms, as nobody was able to post a score under par in the third round. Despite a final round score of 78 (+6), Addicks was able to clinch a 10-stroke victory with a 54-hole total of 218 (+2).
"I didn't play great golf today, but it was enough to win," Addicks told the Helena Independent Record. "To be able to accomplish my goal that I set for myself in the fall, it is a big deal to me.”
Addicks participated in nine tournaments for Seattle U during the 2014-15 season, posting an average score of 77.72. She finished 12th at the Monterey Bay Invitational to help the Redhawks win their first-ever team title, and she capped the collegiate campaign by finishing in a tie for seventh place at the WAC Championships with a three-round score of 226 (+10), her best 54-hole total of the season for the Redhawks.
Addicks is one of seven returners coming back to the Seattle University women’s golf program in 2015-16 as the Redhawks look to continue their improvement after finishing second as a team in last season’s WAC Women’s Golf Championships.
