Ellen Brantberg (Stockholm, Sweden), a member of the Seattle University women’s golf team, is one of 758 women’s collegiate golfers named All-American Scholars by the Women’s Golf Coaches Association (WGCA), announced earlier this month by the national organization.

After transferring from Cal State Northridge, Brantberg appeared in all 10 tournaments Seattle University competed in during the 2014-15 season, posting a scoring average of 78.54. Thanks to a final-round 70 (-1), her best round of the year, Brantberg earned medalist honors at the Monterey Bay Invitational last March and helped the Redhawks win the team title, the program’s first-ever tournament win as a team. She also finished strong at the Western Athletic Conference Championships, shooting 73 (+1) in the final round to end up in a tie for 11th place.

In the classroom, Brantberg completed the 2014-15 academic year with a 3.74 cumulative grade point average, and she is majoring in finance within the Albers School of Business and Economics. It is the fourth straight year that at least one Seattle U golfer has received the WGCA All-American Scholar award.

The criteria for selection to the WGCA All-American Scholar Team are some of the most stringent in all of college athletics, especially with a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.50. Brantberg is one of 11 golfers representing the Western Athletic Conference as All-American Scholars, along with four golfers from both Missouri-Kansas City and Utah Valley as well as two golfers from New Mexico State.

Brantberg is one of seven golfers expected to return to the Seattle University women’s golf team as the Redhawks look to improve from last season’s second place finish at the WAC Championships.
