Seattle University graduate Isiah Umipig (Federal Way, Wash.) has signed a contract to play for MBK Rieker Com Therm Komarno of the Slovakian Basketball League, as reported by Michal Duchovic of EuroBasket.com.
Umipig joins the Slovakian professional team after earning First Team All-WAC honors for the Redhawks in 2014-15, averaging 17.0 points, 3.1 rebounds, and 2.9 assists per game. For the second consecutive year, Umipig set the single-season school record for most made three-pointers with 123, finishing third in Division I by averaging 3.6 made three-pointers per game.
As a senior, Umipig helped Seattle U post an 18-16 record and reach the semifinals of the College Basketball Invitational, finishing with 24 points and seven rebounds against Pepperdine before scoring 20 points against Colorado. He tied the Western Athletic Conference Basketball Tournament single-game record with eight made three-pointers against Missouri-Kansas City in the semifinal.
Rieker KN finished the 2014-15 regular season with a 29-7 record, second place in the SBL standings, before winning the Slovakian Basketball League title with a seven-game series victory over regular season champion Prievidza. The 2015-16 Slovakian Basketball League season is scheduled to begin in early October.
The 2015-16 Seattle University men’s basketball roster and schedule will be finalized in late summer or early fall. Head coach Cameron Dollar enters his seventh season at the helm of the Redhawk program.
