Seattle University pitching coach and recruiting coordinator Elliott Cribby has been selected as one of the coaches for the 2015 USA Baseball Tournament of Stars presented by Major League Baseball, to be held June 23-28 at the USA Baseball National Training Complex in Cary, N.C.
Cribby will serve as the pitching coach for the BRAVE team, one of six squads competing in the tournament. He will be serving on the coaching staff led by Kevin McMullan, associate head coach at the University of Virginia, which just advanced to the NCAA Division I College World Series.
A total of 108 athletes will be participating in the tournament with a chance to advance to the 2015 18U National Team Trials, of which the first round will take place immediately following the tournament in Cary, N.C. Cribby will be assisting the 18U National Team coaching staff, led by Barbe (La.) High School head coach Glenn Cecchini and also including two-time MLB All-Star David Eckstein and CSU Northridge head coach Greg Moore, in selecting the invitees to the trials.
Almost all of the players Cribby will be coaching have committed to an NCAA Division I baseball program, with most planning to attend major conference institutions such as Florida, Texas, Stanford, Arizona State, Vanderbilt, and UCLA.
“I am honored to be selected by USA Baseball for this prestigious event,” Cribby said. “I look forward to working with a very talented pool of players and coaches while continuing to develop great relationships in this business.”
Cribby just completed his second year as the pitching coach at Seattle University, helping the Redhawks to a program-best 31 victories and the championship game of the WAC Baseball Tournament. As a college athlete he led the Washington Huskies in saves and appearances. He was also an All-Pac-10 honoree. Cribby will return to the USA Baseball staff for his second year after serving as a National Team Identification Series coach in 2014.
The USA Baseball Tournament of Stars presented by Major League Baseball is made up of 108 of the nation’s best ballplayers that are international age-eligible (born January 1, 1997 or 1998) for 18U National Team consideration. Participants in the event form the primary pool of talent from which USA Baseball will select its 18U National Team to represent our country at the 2015 18U Baseball World Cup to be played Aug. 28-Sept. 6 in Osaka, Japan.
