Seattle University has announced that a significant reconstruction of the Connolly Center Complex, especially the North Court where women’s basketball and volleyball athletic contests are held, has begun and will continue throughout the summer and early fall.
The Connolly Complex has been the main campus athletics and recreational complex since 1969. The Commitment to Equity renovation is the final component of the University’s five-year gender equity plan for Athletics approved in 2011, which also included the redevelopment of Logan Field at Seattle University Park.
The Connolly Complex renovation specifically addresses Title IX requirements for intercollegiate athletics by enhancing the student-athlete and spectator experience. The project includes seating and visual enhancements to North Court, as well as newly configured locker rooms and spectator amenities. The new Connolly Complex will continue to serve not only Athletics, but all student users and an array of university events.
The project mobilization began on June 1. During construction, the athletics entrance on the north end of the Connolly Complex will be closed, but the Eisiminger Fitness Center will remain open. All visitors to a staff member of the Athletics Department are asked to contact that person before coming to the Connolly Complex.
The new Connolly Complex is expected to be completed late in the fall of 2015.
