Last season, the SU novice 8+, ranked No. 2 coming into the weekend, earned a medal, placing second in the WN8+ Grand Finals, defeating UC Santa Barbara, Sacramento State, Oregon, and UC San Diego. The varsity 8+ also advanced to their second straight WIRA Grand Finals.
The No. 5 seed varsity 8+ will compete in the second of two heats at 2:50 pm on Saturday, with the top three finishers from each race competing in the grand final on Sunday at 12:30 pm. In Seattle U’s race are No. 2 Stanford, No. 3 Sacramento State, and No. 7 San Diego State.
The No. 3 seed novice 8+ are set to face No. 4 Sacramento State, No. 9 Cal, No. 10 UC Santa Barbara, No. 15 Saint Mary’s, and No. 16 Santa Clara in the third of three heats, starting at 11:30 a.m. The novice 8+ grand final takes place at 10 a.m. on Sunday.

After competing this weekend, the Redhawks will finish their third season as a Division I varsity program on Saturday, May 2 at the Opening Day Regatta on the University of Washington’s Montlake Cut. The regatta is the precursor to the prestigious Windermere Cup later that morning, which also marks the opening day of boating season in Seattle.
