Seattle University completed the 2015 Western Athletic Conference Women’s Golf Championships in second place as the third and final round took place Wednesday on the Heritage Course of the Wigwam Golf Resort.
Alexus Song (Auburn, Wash.) struggled through the first 12 holes, but back-to-back birdies on the 13th and 14th holes helped her climb back into a tie for fourth place in the final standings with a three-round total of 221 (+5). Song posted her best 54-hole score of the year as she finished as Seattle U’s top golfer for the third straight tournament to close out the 2014-15 season, earning Second Team All-WAC recognition for that accomplishment.
Dorsey Addicks (Big Sky, Mont.) posted her best round of the tournament, using four birdies, three of them on par-three holes, to shoot 74 (+2) in the final round. She moved up into a tie for seventh place in the final standings with a three-round total of 226 (+10), her best 54-hole total of the year as well as her first top-10 finish in 2014-15.
Ellen Brantberg (Stockholm, Sweden) enjoyed a stretch of four birdies in six holes on the front nine, and then she eagled the par-five 13th hole on her way to a third round score of 73 (+1). She finished the tournament in a tie for 11th place at 228 (+12), tying for her second-best three-round total of the year and picking up her third top-15 finish of the season.
Amanda Beyke (Federal Way, Wash.) collected two birdies, but endured some problems along the way as she shot 78 (+6) to finish in 14th place at 229 (+13). Jamie Huo (Kent, Wash.) improved from the first two days, shooting 77 (+5) to end the tournament in a tie for 17th place at 235 (+19). Thanks to solid performances throughout the year, Huo received First Team All-WAC honors, while Beyke earned Second Team All-WAC recognition.
As a team, Seattle U combined for a third-round score of 300 (+12) to remain in second place in the final team standings at 903 (+39), the best 54-hole score of the year for the Redhawks. Thanks to a final round 292 (+4), New Mexico State cruised to the team title with a three-round total of 869 (+5). Viviana Macias of New Mexico Stat shot even par 72 to earn medalist honors at 215 (-1) by one stroke over teammate Kacey Dalpes.
The Seattle University women’s golf team will have a similar look next year, as all five competitors who played in this year’s WAC Championships will be eligible to return next season.
