The Seattle University women’s golf team remained in second place as play concluded Tuesday in the second round of the 2015 Western Athletic Conference Women’s Golf Championships on the Heritage Course of the Wigwam Golf Resort.
Alexus Song (Auburn, Wash.) was playing another steady round of golf through the first 17 holes, with her only misstep being a double bogey on the seventh hole. Despite earning birdies on the sixth and 15th holes, she triple-bogeyed the 18th hole to fall into third place at 145 (+1) after shooting 75 (+3) in the second round.
Amanda Beyke (Federal Way, Wash.) picked up back-to-back birdies on the ninth and 10th holes, but she bogeyed each of the final three holes to finish the round with a score of 77 (+5), falling into 10th place with a two-round total of 151 (+7). After bogeying four of her first five holes, Dorsey Addicks (Big Sky, Mont.) went even par the rest of the way to post her second straight 76 (+4), ending the day in a tie for 11th place at 152 (+8).
Ellen Brantberg (Stockholm, Sweden) opened the back nine with three birdies in four holes, but four straight bogeys pushed her back into a tie for 15th place at 155 (+11) after a second round score of 77 (+5). Jamie Huo (Kent, Wash.) shot 79 (+7) for the second straight day to end the day in a tie for 21st place at 158 (+14).
As a team, Seattle U shot 305 (+17) to stay in second place by eight strokes over third-place Missouri-Kansas City. New Mexico State extended its lead to 26 strokes thanks to a second-round 285 (-3) for a two-round total of 577 (+1), with the Aggies’ Viviana Macias holding a one-stroke lead over teammate Kacey Dalpes and a two-stroke advantage over Song after 36 holes.
The third and final round of the 2015 WAC Women’s Golf Championships will begin Wednesday, April 22, at 7 a.m. The Seattle University golfers will be in the final five groups, with tee times starting at 8:30 a.m. and continuing until 9:10 a.m.
