The Seattle University women’s golf team heads to Litchfield Park, Ariz., over the weekend in preparation of the 2015 Western Athletic Conference Women’s Golf Championships, to be held Monday through Wednesday, April 20-22, at the Heritage Course of the Wigwam Golf Resort.
The Redhawks are ranked 149th in the latest Golfstat team rankings, behind only New Mexico State among WAC teams eligible to win the conference title and the league’s automatic bid into the NCAA Tournament. Seattle U enters the conference tournament with a scoring average of 309.9, just ahead of Missouri-Kansas City and almost 12 strokes behind the Aggies.
Sophomore Jamie Huo (Kent, Wash.) is seventh in the conference in scoring average at 77.28 during a season highlighted by a tie for second place at the Matador Golf Invitational and a third place finish at the Monterey Bay Invitational. She shot a career-best 69 in the second round of the Matador Golf Invitational, tied for fourth for low single-round within the conference.
Dorsey Addicks (Big Sky, Mont.) and Amanda Beyke (Federal Way, Wash.) tied as Seattle U’s top finisher at last year’s WAC Championships, finishing in a tie for eighth place after shooting one-under-par 71 in the final round. This season, Addicks has compiled a stroke average of 78.05, while Beyke finished second at the Monterey Bay Invitational as well as in a tie for 10th place at both the Washington State Cougar Cup and the Pat Lesser Harbottle Invitational.
Alexus Song (Auburn, Wash.) has been Seattle U’s best player over the past month, earning top-15 finishes at all three tournaments the Redhawks competed in, including a tie for 13th place at the recent Wyoming Cowgirl Classic thanks to career-best scores for both a single round (72) and a 54-hole tournament (222). Ellen Brantberg (Stockholm, Sweden) won the Monterey Bay Invitational after shooting a career-best round of 70 on the final day, and also finished in a tie for 15th place at the Red Rocks Invitational.
The team that wins the WAC Women’s Golf Championships will receive the league’s automatic berth into the NCAA Tournament. The women will compete on the Heritage Course at the Wigwam Golf Resort, a par-72 track that could measure up to 6,850 yards.
