Wallis and Verdoia are two of just 29 female scholarship winners across all NCAA Divisions for the fall season, which, for women, includes cross country, equestrian, field hockey, rugby, and volleyball. Over the entire competition year, the NCAA awards 174 total such scholarships, 58 per season (29 men, 29 women).
To be considered for the award, a student-athlete must be nominated by their institution’s Faculty Athletics Representative (FAR) or a FAR designee and must be in their final season of NCAA athletics eligibility. Academically, the student-athlete must have over a 3.2 cumulative undergraduate GPA, have performed with distinction as a varsity team member in the sport of their nomination, and intend to continue academic work beyond a baccalaureate degree.
Outside of athletics and academics, each student-athlete must be involved in community service or other related activities that demonstrate leadership qualities.
