The Seattle University women’s golf team produced one of the best afternoon rounds Monday, moving up into eighth place after two rounds of the Cowgirl Classic, hosted by the University of Wyoming at the Ak-Chin Southern Dunes Golf Club.
Alexus Song (Auburn, Wash.) earned two birdies and an eagle to shoot 73 (+1) in the first round before a round of 77 (+5) in the afternoon put her in a tie for 16th place with a two-round total of 150 (+6). Jamie Huo (Kent, Wash.) overcame a first-round 81 (+9), shooting 71 (-1) in the second round thanks to four birdies against just three bogeys to move up into a tie for 25th place at 152 (+8).
Dorsey Addicks (Big Sky, Mont.) put together scores of 76 (+4) and 78 (+6) for a two-round total of 154 (+10), good enough for a tie for 42nd place. Amanda Beyke (Federal Way, Wash.) is also tied for 42nd place at 154 (+10) after back-to-back rounds of 77 (+5). Ellen Brantberg (Stockholm, Sweden) improved from an opening-round 82 (+10) to a second-round score of 78 (+6), currently in a tie for 83rd place at 160 (+16).
As a team, Seattle U posted an opening round score of 307 (+19) to finish the morning in a tie for 13th place, but a second round score of 303 (+15) enabled the Redhawks to move into eighth place. Nevada maintained the lead throughout the day, finishing 36 holes at 594 (+18), five strokes in front of Washington State. Emelie Lundstrom of San Francisco took a one-stroke lead at the end of the day at even-par 144 after rounds of 73 and 71.
The third and final round of the Cowgirl Classic will begin with a shotgun start at 7:45 a.m., with the Redhawks teeing off from holes three through six.
