Stephanie Verdoia (Salt Lake City, Utah), who recently completed her career with Seattle University women’s soccer as the program leader in both goals and points, has signed a contract with the Boston Breakers of the National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL).

Drafted by the Breakers in January in the fourth round of the 2015 NWSL College Draft, Verdoia is believed to be the first Seattle U female student-athlete ever drafted by a United States professional sports league and the first student-athlete already attending SU to be drafted since 1980.

Most recently, Verdoia was selected to compete on a three-game trip with the U.S. U-23 Women’s National Team in La Manga, Spain where she competed in two of three games and recorded an assist.

Verdoia finished her collegiate career as one of the most accomplished Redhawks in women’s soccer program history, receiving both the prestigious Senior CLASS Award as well as the Capital One Academic All-American of the Year Award, both for Division I women’s soccer. Among her numerous other accolades, she was also named Female Sports Star of the Year at the Seattle Sports Commission’s 2015 MTR Western Seattle Sports Star of the Year Awards.

Academically, Verdoia was also a 2015 NCAA Postgraduate Scholarship winner and was a semifinalist for the prestigious Wooden Cup Award.

Redhawk fans will have the opportunity to see Verdoia compete for the Breakers near the Emerald City as the team opens their 2015 season on Saturday, Apr. 11 versus the Portland Thorns FC at Providence Park in Portland, Ore. The Breakers will return to Portland on Wednesday, Aug. 5 and will make a trip to Seattle to face Seattle Reign FC on Wednesday, Aug. 26.
