SU Returns Home for Five Game Homestand, WAC Home Opener: Seattle University softball returns home for a five-game homestand this week, hosting Portland State in a non-conference doubleheader on Wednesday and New Mexico State for a three-game weekend series in their WAC home opener. With only three home contests this season to date, the Redhawks are scheduled to host nine of 15 total games in the month of April to close the regular season.
Up Next and Looking Ahead: After this week, SU will have four more home games, hosting Washington on Apr. 15 and Bakersfield (Apr. 24-25) on senior weekend. The Redhawks will also take two more conference road trips to Utah Valley (Apr. 10-11) and Kansas City (Apr. 17-18). All five eligible teams will advance to the WAC Tournament in May.

Bubba Morrow Nearing Seattle U Career Doubles Record: Morrow moved into a tie for first in Seattle U’s all-time career doubles records (32) with a two-base hit down the right field line in the top of the third vs. LMU on Mar. 23.

Scouting Portland State (7-25, 1-5 Big Sky): The Vikings are on a four-game losing skid after dropping a home contest to Washington on Mar. 25 and being swept by Weber State last weekend. The doubleheader closes five straight road games for PSU before they return home this weekend to host Northern Colorado. The Vikings picked up a Big Sky win vs. Southern Utah in the final game of a three-game series on Mar. 22, Ashley Smith has a team-high .350 average at the plate, adding 17 runs on 28 hits (6 2B, 1 3B, 9 RBI, 7-8 SB) while in the circle, Karyn Wright has a team-low 4.64 ERA and Kristen Crawford has a team-high three wins (3-8 record). In the teams’ last meeting, a doubleheader on Apr. 24, 2013, SU won the first game, 7-2, before Portland State won the second, 5-2.
Scouting New Mexico State (27-11, 3-0 WAC): Picked to win the WAC title in 2015, the Aggies’ Fiana Finau and Karysta Donisthorpe picked up WAC Hitter and Pitcher of the Week, respectively, this week for their series sweep over Utah Valley to open WAC play. Among starters, Brennalyn Nakamura leads NM State at the plate (.426, 19 R, 26 H, 4 2B, 3 HR, 18 RBI) while Donisthorpe owns a team-low 2.86 ERA as well as a 14-3 record in four complete games, also picking up a save and registering 96 strikeouts.
