AMERICAN LAKE, Wash. – Seattle University women’s rowing had a strong showing in their respective heats, with each boat advancing to the finals, but windy conditions forced later races to be cancelled.

“We had tough, windy conditions today but the ladies handled them well,” said head coach Jenny Park. “I’m thrilled with the novice results as they had a great first 2K race. The varsity had a great race as well and it was a good way to kick off the season. We look forward to racing at the Husky Open next weekend.”

In the women’s varsity 8+ race, Seattle U finished fourth in front of Pacific Lutheran, Oregon, and Washington State with a finishing time of 08:07.6, 44 seconds ahead of the final boat to cross the finish line and 15 seconds behind the lead boat.

The women’s novice 8+ won their first heat with a time of 08:33.5, defeating Portland, Humboldt State, Puget Sound, Oregon, and Pacific (Oregon). Winning in convincing fashion, the Redhawks passed the finish line 33 seconds ahead of Portland, the second place finisher.

The Redhawks compete next on Saturday, Apr. 4 at the Husky Open on the Montlake Cut in Seattle.
