Seattle U to Open 2015 WAC Schedule in Phoenix: Seattle University softball will open Western Athletic Conference play this season where they left off last season, as the Redhawks hosted Grand Canyon to close the 2014 regular season. This year, SU will make their first DI trip to the GCU campus to open league play on the home field of the 2014 WAC Regular Season champions.

Up Next and Looking Ahead: After facing the ‘Lopes this weekend, the Redhawks return home for a five-game homestand next week, hosting Portland State in a non-conference doubleheader on Wednesday and New Mexico State for a three-game weekend series in their WAC home opener. With only three home contests this season to date, the Redhawks are scheduled to host nine of 15 total games in the month of April.

Scouting Grand Canyon (19-16): The ‘Lopes went 3-2 at last weekend’s Louisville Slugger Invite in Stockton, Calif., opening the weekend with wins over UConn, Pacific, and CSUN, also winning at least four games in each of their previous two weekend outings. After opening the season hosting 21 games in February, including two tournaments, GCU has not played on their home field in over a month (Feb. 22). After previously going 2-2 as DII opponents, the Lopes and Redhawks faced for the first time in Apr. 2014 as Division I conference foes, a series GCU won, 2-1, to capture the 2014 WAC Regular Season title. Among starters, Kayla Henry leads the Lopes at the plate (.404) with 23 runs, 46 hits, two doubles, a triple, and seven RBI, as well as a team-leading 7-of-8 stolen bases. In the circle, Taylor Nowlin has posted a team-low 3.33 ERA and 7-6 record in 27 appearances and six starts, striking out 80 batters faced.
