The Seattle University men’s golf team was unable to post scores as low as most of the field, finishing in 13th place at the Desert Shootout Saturday, hosted by the University of Denver at the Palm Valley Golf Club.

Ross Kukula (Ocean Park, Wash.) posted two birdies and four bogeys in shooting 74 (+2) to end the tournament in a tie for 38th place at 216 (even). Joe Harvie (Orting, Wash.) shot Seattle U’s best round of the day, birding three of his final five holes to post a score of 71 (-1), finishing the tournament in a tie for 44th place at 218 (+2).

Luka Karaula (Zapresic, Croatia) matched Kukula’s 74 with two birdies and four bogeys to post a 54-hole total of 219 (+3), finishing in a tie for 48th place. Kyle Cornett (Mill Creek, Wash.) shot 75 (+3) in the final round to end up in a tie for 51st place at 220 (+4), and Patrick Sato (Bellevue, Wash.) shot 76 (+4) to finish the weekend in a tie for 62nd place at 222 (+6).

As a team, Seattle U posted a third-round score of 294 (+6) to conclude the 54-hole tournament in 13th place at 872 (+8), four strokes behind 12th-place Long Beach State. Kansas earned the team title with an eight-stroke victory over Iowa State after a three-round total of 829 (-35), while Antoine Rozner of UMKC earned medalist honors with a three-day total of 204 (-12) by two strokes over a four-way tie for second place.

The Seattle University men’s golf team will host the second annual Redhawk Invitational at Chambers Bay, the host course for the 2015 United States Open Championship, on April 6-7 in University Place, Wash. The Redhawks will welcome 17 collegiate golf teams from across the United States and Canada to play on the same course that will host a major championship two months later.
