While Amanda Beyke (Federal Way, Wash.) maintained her spot at the top of the individual leaderboard, the rest of the Seattle University women’s golf team improved their scores as second place Seattle U closed the gap behind first place Towson University after Monday’s second round of the Monterey Bay Invitational, hosted by Drake University at the Rancho Canada Golf Club West Course.
Beyke shot 77 (+6) in the second round, remaining in the lead with a two-round total at 152 (+10) by three strokes over Alexis Hios of Towson. Jamie Huo (Kent, Wash.) sits in third place in the individual standings after shooting 77 (+6) for a two-day total of 157 (+15).
Juhee Lee (Wilsonville, Ore.) and Ellen Brantberg (Stockholm, Sweden) once again matched scores, also shooting 77 (+6) to finish the day tied for fourth place with a 36-hole total of 158 (+16). Alexus Song (Auburn, Wash.) improved her score by five strokes, posting a second round mark of 79 (+8) to end the day in 16th place at 163 (+21). Dorsey Addicks (Big Sky, Mont.) cut nine strokes off her first round score, shooting 78 (+7) to move into a tie for 19th place at 165 (+23).
Seattle U posted the best team round score of the tournament so far, shooting 309 (+25) to move to within two strokes of Towson in the team standings with a two-round total of 635 (+67). The Redhawks are now 19 strokes ahead of third place CSU Bakersfield as the two teams are one month away from competing at the WAC Women’s Golf Championships.
The third and final round will begin Tuesday, March 17, with a shotgun start at 8:30 a.m., as Seattle U golfers will tee off from the first (Addicks and Song), 10th (Lee and Brantberg), 11th (Huo), and 17th (Beyke) holes at that time.
