Amanda Beyke (Federal Way, Wash.) battled the tough conditions at the Rancho Canada Golf Club West Course the best Sunday, moving to the top of the individual leaderboard while Seattle University is second as a team after the first round of the Monterey Bay Invitational, hosted by Drake University.
Beyke posted an opening round score of four over par 75, four strokes ahead of a six-way tie for second place. She collected three birdies during her round, tied for the tournament lead, plus she leads the field in both par-four scoring (+3) and par-five scoring (-2).
Jamie Huo (Kent, Wash.) is currently tied for eighth place with a first round score of 80 (+9), earning one birdie and 10 pars during her circuit. Ellen Brantberg (Stockholm, Sweden) and Juhee Lee (Wilsonville, Ore.) each shot 81 (+10) and find themselves in a tie for 11th place after the first day.
Alexus Song (Auburn, Wash.) posted a first round score of 84 (+13) and is sitting in a tie for 18th place heading into the second day. Dorsey Addicks (Big Sky, Mont.) is in a tie for 29th place after shooting 87 (+16) in the first round.
As a team, Seattle U sits in second place with a score of 326 (+42), eight strokes behind current team leader Towson University. Because Beyke is playing as an individual, her score does not count within the team total.
The second round of the Monterey Bay Invitational will begin at 1 p.m., with Seattle U golfers teeing off from the first hole starting with Addicks and continuing every eight minutes until Beyke tees off at 1:40 p.m.
