The planned two-kilometer races were canceled due to non-rowable waters down the stretch, which made a lengthy race impossible. The two teams were able to find a protected area of the lake to compete in six 500 meter races.
“The women handled the bad conditions well and we were able to find a small stretch of rowable water,” said head coach Jenny Park. “The novice 8+ did great and I’m very happy with their results. We have a better idea of where we need to improve. We’ve got work to do over the next couple of weeks but we’ve lit the fire and the team is ready to go.”
In the varsity 8+ races, Portland was ahead of Seattle U a boat length every piece and in the novice 8+ races, Seattle U was up a boat length to earn the victory in their respective races.
Seattle U will have two weeks off from competition before the Daffodil Sprints on American Lake in Lakewood, Wash. on Saturday, Mar. 28. Stay tuned to GoSeattleU.com for all the latest updates on the team throughout the 2015 spring season.
