Redhawks Host Grand Canyon in Regular Season Finale, Honor Seniors: Seattle University women’s basketball will host Grand Canyon University in their regular season finale as the team will also honor their senior class. Makenna Clark and Renee Dillard-Brown will play their final home contests in Redhawk uniform Saturday as the team prepares for the Western Athletic Conference tournament in Las Vegas next weekend. Fans are encouraged to be in their seats early as the senior presentation will take place prior to the game. Home Sweet Home: With a record-high 20 home games this season, Saturday will mark the finale, game 20 of 20 for the 2014-15 home season. The Redhawks completed 10 of 20 (including exhibitions) prior to the Christmas holiday. At the beginning of January, the Redhawks finished a stretch in which they played 11 of 12 on their home court (Nov. 29-Jan. 10). After playing seven of eight home games during the month of December and six of eight in January, the Redhawks are playing on their home floor just twice in February.
WAC Tournament Tickets Now on Sale: All-session tickets for the 2015 Western Athletic Conference basketball tournament (Mar. 11-14) at Orleans Arena in Las Vegas are now on sale by calling (206) 398-GOSU or through the Orleans Arena box office at (702) 284-7777 or www.orleansarena.com. Single-session tickets will not be available until Mar. 11 and will only be available for purchase through the Orleans Arena box office.
Scouting Grand Canyon (13-13, 7-6 WAC): Grand Canyon is in their second year of a four-year NCAA Division I reclassification process and are thus not eligible for the WAC Tournament or postseason play until 2017. As such, the Lopes will close the 2014-15 season with this contest versus the Redhawks. GCU moved from below to above .500 in WAC play last weekend with a pair of home wins versus Chicago State, 73-49, on Feb. 26 and Kansas City, 57-42, on Senior Day. Jessica Gajewski (10.7 ppg) and August Touchard (10.0 ppg) are leading the squad in scoring while Cheyenne Hedrington leads the team, averaging 7.3 boards per game. Earlier this season, the Redhawks topped the Lopes in a 59-56 thriller in Phoenix behind a double-double by Taelor Ross, including a career-high 14 rebounds. Renee Dillard-Brown also dished out a then-career high three assists in the win. Last season in the teams’ first two meetings as conference foes, the Redhawks took a 89-68 win in Seattle while the Lopes picked up a 72-66 win in Phoenix.
Record Breaking Performances: Renee Dillard-Brown tied her career highs with nine rebounds and three steals at Bakersfield on Feb. 28. As a team, the Redhawks recorded their second best rebounding number this season with 48 vs. Bakersfield (high: 49).
