The Seattle University women’s golf team used two solid scores to finish the opening round of the Red Rocks Invitational in a tie for sixth place as play concluded Friday at the Oak Creek Country Club.

Sophomores Jamie Huo (Kent, Wash.) and Alexus Song (Auburn, Wash.) each shot two-over-par 74 to lead the Redhawks. They are part of a seven-way tie for 11th place, five strokes behind tournament leader Charlotte Jaengkit of Grand Canyon, but just two shots behind a five-way tie for second place.

Ellen Brantberg (Stockholm, Sweden) shot 77 (+5) in the first round to end the day in a tie for 40th place, while Amanda Beyke (Federal Way, Wash.) is in a tie for 86th place after a first-round 82 (+10), and Juhee Lee (Wilsonville, Ore.) is in 122nd place with an 18-hole score of 89 (+17). Playing as an individual, Dorsey Addicks (Big Sky, Mont.) shot 83 (+11) to find herself in a tie for 91st place.

As a team, Seattle U combined for an opening-round score of 307 (+19) to finish the day tied with Santa Clara for sixth place among the 20-team field. Host school Northern Arizona holds the lead at 300 (+12) by one stroke over Sacramento State and Cal Poly, with New Mexico State (302) and Eastern Michigan (303) also close behind.

The second and final round of the tournament, moved up one day due to the forecast of bad weather on Sunday, is scheduled to take place Saturday, Feb. 28, with a 10 a.m. local time shotgun start.
