The Seattle University baseball team was able to reschedule all three games it lost with the cancellation of the USA Baseball-Irish Classic, as the Redhawks will host the Fairleigh Dickinson University Knights at Bannerwood Park in Bellevue this weekend.
The Redhawks and Knights will play a doubleheader, featuring two nine-inning games, Saturday, Feb. 28, with the first game starting at 1 p.m. and the second game beginning 30 minutes after the conclusion of the first contest. The series will conclude Sunday, March 1, with a single game starting at 2 p.m.
Seattle U was scheduled to face Richmond, Notre Dame, and Cincinnati in the USA Baseball-Irish Classic this weekend in Cary, N.C., but flight cancellations forced the Redhawks to withdraw, and the tournament has been cancelled due to a winter storm in North Carolina. Fairleigh Dickinson will now open its 2015 season in Bellevue after the Norfolk State Tournament, where it was supposed to play Norfolk State, Iona, and Lehigh, was cancelled due winter weather in Virginia.
Fairleigh Dickinson is a member of the Northeast Conference from Teaneck, N.J. The Knights posted a 15-32 record in 2014 and was picked to finish seventh in the NEC preseason poll. Gary Puccio is entering his fifth season as head coach of the Knights and previously served as an associate scout for the Seattle Mariners.
Due to the last-minute nature of scheduling this series, all fans will receive free admission to this weekend’s contests. Live stats will be available on GoSeattleU.com, and efforts are being made to also provide either live audio or live video.
