California, Here We Come: After opening the season with weekends in Tempe, Ariz. and Las Vegas and their first of two straight weekends in California last week (at Santa Clara), Seattle University softball (5-9) travels to Long Beach this weekend for the Louisville Slugger Invitational. This weekend, the Redhawks will face a repeat opponent in Boise State (last in Las Vegas), Long Beach State, Portland State, Southern Utah, and Weber State. The Redhawks travel south for the fourth straight weekend before returning to Seattle for UW’s Spring Classic (Mar. 6-8). SU hosts their first home games vs. Notre Dame de Namur (Mar. 11) and Texas Tech (Mar. 18) in mid-March and will open their third WAC season in Phoenix on the home field of the 2014 Regular Season Champions, Grand Canyon, on Mar. 27-28.

Bubba Morrow Nearing Seattle U Career Doubles Record: Morrow moved up to tied for second on Seattle U’s all-time career records list for doubles (30 as of 2/24) this past weekend and is two away from tying Allegra Wilde’s top spot (32).

Scouting Boise State (5-10): The Broncos closed last weekend with a 7-6 eight-inning win vs. Indiana State, snapping a six-game losing skid, with their last win, 9-5, coming vs. the Redhawks on Feb. 14 in Las Vegas. Kayla Clausen leads the team at the plate (.450) with seven runs on nine hits as well as four doubles, a home run, and five RBI. In the circle, Nicole Wilson leads the team with a 4.44 ERA.
Scouting Long Beach State (7-8): The Beach opened with 3-2 records the first two weekends of the season with key victories over Utah, Nevada, and Boise State before picking up a win over Syracuse last weekend despite going 1-4 in Palm Springs. The 49ers face a slate of tough opponents over the next week with two Pac-12 foes in UCLA and Stanford this weekend and will host No. 1 Florida for a mid-week contest next Wednesday (Mar 4). At the plate, Shayna Kimbrough leads the team (.400, 10 runs, 16 hits, two doubles, three RBI) while Christian Carbajal is the squad’s ERA leader (1.72, 3-2, two starts, one complete game, 13 strikeouts).
